Troubleshooting Audio and Microphone Issues
If your Chartnote notes are coming out empty or filled with hallucinations, the most common cause is that your microphone isn't picking up any audio. When Chartnote can't hear you clearly, it has nothing accurate to transcribe, which can result in blank notes or content that doesn't match what was said. The good news is that this is almost always a quick fix. This guide walks you through how to check your microphone permissions, confirm the right device is selected, and run a test recording to make sure your audio is being captured correctly.
How to Troubleshoot Audio and Microphone Issues
- Click the icon next to the URL in your Chrome browser to open the microphone permissions.
- Make sure the microphone permissions are enabled for Chartnote.
- Check whether the blue bar under Recording Mode / Microphone is moving. If it moves, your microphone is picking up audio.
- Click the microphone settings to review your input device.
- Make sure the correct microphone is selected, especially if you have more than one input device connected, such as a headset, webcam, or built-in mic.
- Click the AI Scribe icon to create a test recording.
- Watch the wave lines while you speak. If the wave lines are moving, your audio is being picked up successfully.
- Click Play to listen back to the recording and confirm what the microphone is actually capturing.
If the correct microphone is selected but audio still isn't being picked up (the wave lines are not moving):
- Test the same microphone in a different application, such as Zoom, to determine whether the issue is with Chartnote or with the device itself.
- If the microphone doesn't work in the other app either, reboot your device and test again.
- If the problem persists after rebooting, contact your IT department, as this points to a device- or system-level issue.
If audio IS being recorded (the wave lines move and playback has sound) but the note still comes out empty:
This typically means the wrong voice language is selected. Check your voice language setting and update it if needed. Click here to learn how: How to Change your Voice Language.
