Even though users with a Max subscription enjoy unlimited Copilot tokens, there are some technical limits to be aware of. This article explains why this error occurs and how to manage your usage to prevent disruptions.
The usage limit error is related to the computational resources required to process complex interactions within Copilot. In our system, each interaction consumes “tokens,” a measure of data processed by the AI. For users with a Max subscription, there is no restriction on the total tokens available per month; however, sustained or high-frequency usage within a short period may still trigger a temporary limit.
For instance, the message might say:
"You've reached the current usage cap for Copilot. Too many requests in 1 hour. Try again later."
This safeguard is designed to prevent overload on the system, ensuring that all users experience optimal response times without delays or interruptions.
Wait for the Limit to Reset: If you encounter this message, it generally resets within a few hours. This means you can resume using Copilot after a brief pause.
Start a New Session: Copilot sessions that extend over a long period can increase the token count considerably. Wrapping up lengthy tasks and starting a fresh session may help prevent reaching the hourly cap.
Optimize Your Queries: Being concise with commands or questions and spacing out interactions when possible can reduce the likelihood of triggering a temporary limit.
